Overcome Procrastination By Setting Daily Goals

One of the surest ways to slay procrastination is to train yourself to accomplish daily goals. You have more confidence to complete a task if you know that you have already done it before. By setting small daily goals and accomplishing them, you get things done and instill in yourself the habit of accomplishing goals.

It may sound simple, but you should set a goal everyday and then make it a priority to achieve it. It is too easy to get discouraged and procrastinate if you only operate on long term goals or worse, don't set goals at all. The benefit of setting small daily goals is that you set a goal that is possible to achieve that very day so you develop a history of achieving goals. It instills a sense of accomplishment and pride. The more goals that you achieve, the higher your confidence will be and the less you will be tempted to procrastinate.

Once you are in the habit of setting and achieving daily goals, then start setting weekly goals, and then monthly goals. Integrate your goals so that your daily goals move you toward achieving your weekly goals and so forth. If a project seems impossible to complete and you are tempted to procrastinate, immediately break it down into doable daily goals. It will be easier to stay focused and take action.

Take the time and make the effort to take pride in your accomplishments and reward yourself for accomplishing your goals. You will be tempted to procrastinate now and then, and when you are, switch your focus back to your daily goals to keep yourself on track.

Here are a few tips for keeping focused on your daily goals.

Use your time well

You must learn how to prioritize tasks. If something unexpected comes up don't abandon your goal unless it is mandatory. Turn off the phone, get rid of other distractions, don't let anything pull your focus away from the task at hand until you have completed it. You might find it helpful to keep a log for a couple of weeks so you can see how you spend your time. It might surprise you when you see it in writing. Then you will know what things are robbing your valuable productivity time plus it will give you an overview of how realistic your daily goals are. You want to be sure and set goals that are easy for you to achieve.

Develop a routine

Train yourself to get things done and increase your proficiency by establishing a routine and sticking with it. Don't fill your schedule so full that there is no leeway however as things will always be popping up that you didn't plan for. If you leave room in your routine for them then they won't throw you totally for a loop.

Push yourself to meet your daily goals

Even if something unforeseen does come up, push yourself to accomplish your daily goal. Think long and hard before you abandon your goal and let procrastination get the upper hand. Setting small daily goals will train you to overcome procrastination but you will still have to put forth honest effort.
